Sign Permits

Ordinance: O-2021-01 and O-1625

These updates to the City of Jacksonville sign regulations come after almost two decades without a change and are the result of work in partnership with Planning Concepts and the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation (JEDCO) as well as a committee of stakeholders and community members. The first update incudes measures to improve safety and beauty along commercial routes while the second update expanded the ability for businesses to have grand opening displays and reduced restrictions on temporary signs. The sign regulations can be found at the link below.

Key Changes in O-2021-01:

  • Expanded and modernized sign classifications and definitions.
  • New Temporary sign permit.
  • Reduced visual clutter of commercial corridors.
  • Improve aesthetics of commercial areas to attract more business and more businesses.
  • Increased regulations for new billboards.
  • New 30-Day grand opening allowance.

Key Changes in O-1625:

  • Increased the allowance for Grand Opening displays.
  • Increased the allowable display duration for temporary signs with a permit and allow for concurrent display by multiple businesses.
  • Clarified that signs on soft substrates attached in a permanent fashion may be used as wall signs.
  • Allowed “Sandwich Board” and “Blade” signs to be displayed/used in all non-residential zoning districts.
  • Reduced regulations on flagpoles in residential zoning districts.
  • Allowed “Feather Banners” to be displayed during business hours and subject to additional regulations.
